Run experiment: October 17
part 1 assignment
Run Experiments from: Chapters 3 and 5
A big challenge here will be organizing things so you can quickly rematch people. The instructions for the Chapter 3 game provides an idea on how you might do this that you might adapt to the Chapter 5 game. Getting this routine determined ahead of time and getting everyone seated to make this work is an important part of running this experiment.
materials
Photocopies of worksheets for each person in class
2 decks of playing cars (so each person in class can hold a red and black card)
part 2 assignment
Plot a time series of rates of “pushing” over rounds using the data from the experiment from chapter 3. What is this game equivalent to in the text? How do the results compare to results discussed in the text? Do participants tend to play equilibrium? Does this change?
Show a time series displaying the rate at which pairs “matched” (chose the same color) over periods in the experiment from chapter 5. Did the results change in rounds 3-8? If so, looking at the data, why did the results change – what strategy did participants use in these later periods? Give some evidence. What is this game equivalent to in the text? How do the results compare to results discussed in the text?
Are there any other interesting patterns in the data?
What do you think lies behind your results?
